▪️ Responsibilities: Represented children in the foster system, advocating for their best interests, reunification with family, and ensuring their safety and access to necessary services.
Orange County Deputy District Attorney
▪️ Position: Senior Deputy District Attorney
▪️ Dates: October 1992 - March 2019
▪️ Responsibilities: Prosecuted serious violent felonies, specializing in the special victims unit and victims' rights advocacy; part of several specialized units including Career Criminal, Sexual Assault, and Insurance Fraud Units.
Orange County Probation
▪️ Position: Deputy Probation Officer
▪️ Dates: November 1986 - September 1992
▪️ Responsibilities: Worked as a field and investigative officer for adults and juveniles on probation, wrote pre-sentence reports, participated in gang activity suppression efforts, and assisted police agencies.
Being licensed in both Nevada and California equips Ava with a broad perspective on legal issues and provides her with a diverse skill set that she will bring to the bench. Her experience in two different state legal systems enhances her ability to understand and navigate complex legal landscapes, ensuring fair and effective administration of justice.

▪️ As a former career prosecutor, while specializing in special victims cases, I championed justice and victims' rights.
▪️ As minors' counsel, I advocated for children in the foster system. Today, as a criminal defense attorney representing indigent clients, I ensure that marginalized individuals receive a fair defense regardless of their financial circumstances.
▪️ As a divorced mother, of three adult children I understand the difficulties that burden both children and adults when the legal system imposes decisions on the family unit.
▪️ As a first-generation, bilingual, Latino American, I understand the struggles of those who immigrate to this country.
My diverse background equips me to address our community's needs and make just decisions. I believe all individuals appearing in a court of law deserve the rights granted by our Constitution.
